about

This recording contains three individual pieces — the first, middle, and last movements of what was intended to eventually become a seven movement work. They were inspired by post-recovery reflections on my five-week hospitalization and by a poem from Alfonso Cortés.

Prepared tape, a medium made popular in the mid-20th century by avant-garde musicians, was created using sound samples and combined in live performance with dancers, percussion, and the theremin, an electronic instrument invented in the 1920s which produces sound using oscillators and the human body. During the concert, I played the theremin and congas.
